Shoes musical 'a celebration of footwear'

Thursday, 19th Aug 2010

Shoe fans will soon be able to watch an entire musical devoted to their fetish when a new production opens at Sadler's Wells.

Simply entitled Shoes, the show is an exploration of people's obsession with their footwear, writer Richard Thomas explained.

Thomas told the Daily Telegraph that in the 15 months it has taken him to perfect the show, he has grown to love footwear and appreciate it as an art form.

Featuring characters from a trainer obsessive to a woman who boasts a huge shoe collection, the production was inspired by Thomas' conversations with a variety of people about their shoes.

"I found that if you ask anyone about their shoes, they will open up," the composer said of his experiences interviewing people from all walks of life in London and New York.

The show is due to run at the London venue from September 3rd to 11th and features 32 new songs created especially for the production.
