Actor Bringing His Touring One-Man Show to the West End in the Summer

With the latest Donmar Trafalgar season announced over the weekend at Trafalgar Studios 2 it is time for its sister venue Trafalgar Studios 1 to land in the spotlight. According to Official London theatre the West End location is going to be the home of “Being Shakespeare” – the one man show from Simon Callow that has been enjoying a successful UK national tour. It will be a chance not only for London theatre audiences to witness an acclaimed actor in the West End, but also another chance to visit Trafalgar Studios following its successful run of “End Of The Rainbow”.

The show originally appeared in theatres across the country in 2010 and sees Callow take to the stage as a range of different characters from the Shakespeare back-catalogue. The ultimate aim of the production is to explore the man himself – the man behind the pen – and to take a journey that looks at a variety of characters that have influenced so many others over the ages. Though this is the first West End appearance of the show, “Being Shakespeare”, which was also once known as “Shakespeare – The Man from Stratford”, also appeared at the Richmond Theatre in 2010 as part of its tour.

Simon Callow’s career has encompassed a range of stage and screen roles over the years. For the stage some of his credits include “Equus” at the Chichester Festival Theatre in 2008, Riverside Studios in 2009, “Waiting for Godot” at the Haymarket Theatre in 2009 and “Twelfth Night” at The National Theatre in 2011. For the screen his best known roles include “Four Weddings and a Funeral”, “Shakespeare in Love” and “No Ordinary Trifle”.

Shakespeare remains a hot topic in London once again this year as a host of shows appear in the capital from his extensive list of works. Two productions of “Much Ado About Nothing” will be arriving before the year is out – one at the Wyndham’s Theatre and the other at the globe – whilst “The Tempest” is also set to arrive at the Haymarket later in the year.

“Being Shakespeare” makes its appearance at Trafalgar Studios 1 from Wednesday 15th June 2011 to Saturday 23rd July 2011.
