Stephen Wright in McQueen at the Theatre Royal Haymarket
James Philip’s Play About the Famous Fashion Designer Transferring to West End following St James Run
Earlier in the year audiences headed to the St James Theatre to witness Stephen Wright taking on the role of Alexander McQueen in the James Philips play McQueen. The show clearly proved to be a big success, with audiences responding to direction by John Caird and the various other performances on offer.
Now it has been revealed that the show will benefit from a West End transfer as Wright plays McQueen once again, this time at the Theatre Royal Haymarket.
McQueen delves into the life of the late fashion icon and does this from the perspective of a girl who is taken under his wings. A girl decides to break into his house, the culmination of many years spent spying on him from the trees outside. But when he catches her he decides to take her into town for the night and even provides her with an expensive dress. However, even putting aside fashion, it is clear that the pair can find comfort in the company of one another.
As well as telling a story, the production will also provide a visual treat for fans as fashion shows are recreated on stage, with choreographed sequences adding an extra layer to proceedings.
Stephen Wright is an acclaimed actor who has previously appeared in a range of productions for the stage, including The Ladykillers at the Gielgud Theatre, Those picking up theatre tickets will also recognise him from the likes of The Habit Art at the National Theatre and Dealer’s Choice at the Menier Chocolate Factory. He has also made his way to the screen, with appearances in shows like Bluestone 42 and The Paradise, amongst others.
The Theatre Royal Haymarket has been the home of various high profile shows this year, with Harvey starring James Dreyfuss appearing earlier in 2015 and The Elephant Man starring Bradley Cooper continuing to the summer. It continues to attract top talent.
McQueen, meanwhile, is the next in line for the venue as it runs at the West End location from Thursday 27th August 2015 (previews from Thursday 13th August 2015) to Saturday 7th November 2015.
