The Play That Goes Wrong Extends as Charlie Delays
New Dates for the Trafalgar Studios 2 Production as Previews Delayed for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Last month it was revealed that The Play That Goes Wrong, which originally ran at the Old Red Lion Theatre, would be heading to Trafalgar Studios 2 and, having opened earlier this month, it has clearly proven to be popular enough to warrant a booking extension.
The success of the production means that audiences have a little longer to pick up theatre tickets and witness the story of a failed attempt to put on an Edinburgh Festival Fringe show.
The story sees the Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society put on a murder mystery at the Edinburgh Fringe, with the arrogant head of the group casting himself as the Inspector and the onscreen couple having real life problems with their feelings. Everything that could possibly go wrong crops up as the disaster unfolds onstage.
Mark Bell directs and the production is presented by the Mischief Theatre, best known for their improve comedy performances that are staged around the country. They have also performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, undoubtedly with more success than the Cornley Polytechnic.
Originally booking to Saturday 18th May 2013, The Play That Goes Wrong is now booking at Trafalgar Studios 2 until Saturday 1st June 2013.
Meanwhile, the opposite is true for the upcoming Sam Mendes musical production of Charlie And The Chocolate Factory. The production was due to start previews on Friday 17th May 2013 and technical problems have delayed this, with performances set for Friday and Saturday being cancelled whilst they are solved. Those that have tickets for these performances will be contacted and an alternative date arranged, with the show now due to open on Wednesday 22nd May 2013.
Reportedly the technical problem involves the delayed delivery of stage equipment by a contractor.
Based on Roald Dahl’s book of the same name, Charlie And The Chocolate Factory follows the eponymous Charlie as he, and other recipients of coveted golden tickets, visit Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory.
It is now set to begin previews at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane on Wednesday 22nd May 2013, with the official opening on Tuesday 25th June 2013, and is booking until Saturday 30th November 2013.
