The Who sign up for charity concert
The Who and Debbie Harry have been announced as two acts who are to take part in a charity concert next year.
Taking place in January, the concert in support of the charity Killing Cancer will feature the Blondie front woman and the veteran band, in addition to Jeff Beck and former The Verve singer Richard Ashcroft.
Set to be held at the HMV Hammersmith Apollo in London on January 13th 2011, the gig is being put on to raise money for the charity to fund research into the Photodynamic Therapy method of treating the illness.
The concert is the brainchild of promoter Harvey Goldsmith, manager of the Who Bill Curbishley, and singer Robert Plant, who have all lost someone close to them because of the illness.
Charity director David Longman said that a number of other famous names have backed the call to increase funding into the treatment, including Sir Alex Ferguson, Sir David Frost and the Prince of Wales.
