Tom Goodman-Hill and Anthony Calf in Death And The Maiden
Cast Update for the Upcoming Production of Ariel Dorfman’s 1990 Play at the Comedy Theatre
Last month it was revealed that Thandie Newton would be making her way to the stage of the Comedy Theatre for a new production of “Death and the Maiden” in the West End. It was a high profile casting announcement and marks the latest opportunity for London theatre audiences to witness a high profile Hollywood actress live onstage, following in the footsteps of actors and actresses like Keira Knightley, Josh Hartnett and Kevin Spacey, among others.
Now more names have been added to the cast list with Tom Goodman-Hill and Anthony Calf announced in leading roles. Goodman-Hill will play the husband to Newton’s Paulina. She is a former political prisoner who is unable to recall the face of her tormentor as she never saw it. She did, however, memorise his mannerisms and voice so when a dictatorship collapses and a democracy rises in its place she finds herself acting as judge and jury against her past. Anthony Calf will portray the character of Doctor Roberto Miranda.
Tom Goodman-Hill has appeared in a wealth of television and stage shows over the years, with his credits onscreen encompassing the likes of “Doctor Who”, “Murder in Mind”, “The Office”, “Hustle”, “The Devil’s Whore” and the movie “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen”. For the stage his credits include “ENRON” at the Chichester Festival Theatre, the Royal Court Theatre and the Noel Coward Theatre, as well as “Spamalot” at the Palace Theatre, for which he was nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award.
Anthony Calf, meanwhile, has also appeared in various theatrical and television productions, with various credits associated with The National Theatre and beyond. His credits include “The Madness of King George III and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” for the Southbank venue, in addition to productions like “The Boyfriend” and “Never So Good” in other locations. His screen credits include “Doctor Who” and “Holby City”.
The Comedy Theatre is currently the home of “Betrayal”, which is booking until Saturday 20th August 2011. “Death and the Maiden” arrives on Monday 24th October 2011 (with previews from Thursday 13th October 2011) and runs to Saturday 21st January 2012.
