Tony Robinson Narrating The Wind In The Willows at the Duchess Theatre
Will Kemp Will Star as Ratty Whilst Cris Penfold Plays Toad, Christopher Akrill Plays Badger and Clemmie Sveaas Plays Mole
Back in July it was revealed that Will Tuckett’s production of The Wind in the Willows, which regularly appears at the Royal Opera House, will be heading to the West End’s Duchess Theatre this Christmas. Now a cast list has emerged, with Tony Robinson employed to narrate the stage show (as author Kenneth Grahame) and Will Kemp appearing amongst the lead cast members as he returns to the role of Ratty.
The Wind In The Willows is a well known story that takes audiences to the woodland of Thames Valley, England and introduces them to memorable characters like Ratty (Kemp), Mole (Clemmie Sveaas), Mr Badger (Christopher Akrill) and Toad (Cris Penfold), among others. The story focuses on the obstacles they face as they live in the wilderness, such as the man-made objects like caravans and cars that threaten their existence.
The book was penned in 1908 by Kenneth Grahame and has been widely circulated since, with television adaptations amongst the ways in which audiences have experienced it.
And Grahame himself appears in the show to narrate and he is played by Tony Robinson, best known for television shows like Time Team and Blackadder (portraying the dim-witted Baldrick throughout the latter show’s run). Over the years he has also appeared in Maid Marion And Her Merry Men (as the Sheriff of Nottingham), The Young Ones, Terry Pratchett’s Hogfather and Tony Robinson’s Tim Walks. He has also amde his way to the stage before, with his early career seeing him appear at the West Yorkshire Playhouse, among other locations.
Meanwhile, Will Kemp is an actor whose career has included both stage and screen work, from movies like Van Helsing and Step Up 2: The Streets to stage productions like Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake.
The cast also includes Ewan Wardrop, Paul James Rooney, Kayleigh Gore, Connor Dowling, Kirsty Mather, Anna Martine, Jo Meredith and Aron Wild.
The Wind In The Willows follows The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui when it runs at the Duchess Theatre from Monday 16th December 2013 (with previews from Wednesday 11th December 2013).
