Two West End Musicals Extend
It has been revealed that two productions have added new dates in the West End and both of them are popular musicals – Viva Forever! and Les Misérables. Both shows will now be accepting bookings into 2014 to join the likes of Wicked as some of the first to do so this year.
Viva Forever! is the Spice Girls musical that opened in December with Jennifer Saunders behind the book and the cast including Sally Ann Triplett and Hannah John-Kamen. It charts an original story concerning a television talent show that catapults a beautiful young girl, plus her friends, into the spotlight. With overnight fame and celebrity culture a focus of the proceedings we follow them as the girl’s relationships with her friends and family are impacted by her newfound success. Along the way the hits of the Spice Girls form the musical numbers.
The production opened at the Piccadilly Theatre and is from producers of another jukebox musical in the capital – Mamma Mia! – which uses a similar formula to shine a spotlight on the music of ABBA.
Those still hoping to pick up theatre tickets will now have more time as the show has extended its booking period up to Saturday 15th February 2014.
Whilst Viva Forever! only recently opened, the other show to extend its run in the capital this week – Les Misérables - is the longest running musical in London. The show opened its doors at the Barbican in 1985 before transferring to the Palace Theatre later in the same year. It then found itself at its current home of the Queen’s Theatre in 2004 and it is here that adds new dates to April 2014.
The story, which was recently seen on cinema screens in the movie version featuring Hugh Jackman, follows ex-con Jean Valjean (Geronimo Rauch) in 19th century France as he is pursued relentlessly for decades by the determined Inspector Javert.
Though Christmas dates are yet to go on sale (23rd December 2013 to 3rd January 2014), Les Misérables is now booking at the Queen’s Theatre up to Saturday 26th April 2014.
