Various Booking Extensions in the West End
An array of booking extensions have emerged regarding shows in the West End this month; all of them are musicals and all of them will now continue well into 2012 at their respective homes. “Shrek the Musical” is one, having only opened its doors in June 2011, as well as “Million Dollar Quarter”, which opened in February 2011, and “We Will Rock You”, which has been running at the Dominion Theatre since April 2002. In the case of the latter, the extension takes it to March 2012, which is one month shy of its tenth anniversary.
“Shrek the Musical” is the stage adaptation of the famous movie (and book) about the green ogre who rescues a beautiful princess and causes a lot of trouble in the process. Taking its cues from an abundance of fairytales it features Nigel Lindsay in the role of Shrek, plus Amanda Holden, Richard Blackwood and Nigel Harman in lead roles as well.
It is now booking at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane until Sunday 21st October 2012.
Meanwhile, “Million Dollar Quartet” is a musical that takes its cues from real life events as the meet-up between Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash and Jerry Lee Lewis is dramatised on the stage, taking audiences back in time to Memphis, Tennessee in 1956. The legendary recordings of the four-some would be the stuff of legend and is often thought-of as the first rock supergroup. The musical features various tracks from the individual stars’ back catalogue.
It is now booking at the Noel Coward Theatre until Saturday 27th October 2012.
Finally, “We Will Rock You” has also announced its latest booking extension at the Dominion Theatre and, as mentioned, the show now has a booking period that takes it one month shy of its ten-year anniversary in the West End. If it gets that far it will be the latest birthday in the capital following this year’s “The Phantom of the Opera” and last year’s “Les Miserables”.
It is now booking at the Dominion Theatre until Saturday 24th March 2012.
