West End Return for Let It Be at the Garrick Theatre
The Beatles Musical Originally Appeared at the Prince of Wales and Savoy Theatre in from 2012 to 2014
Let It Be is set to return to the West End later this year with a run at the Garrick Theatre. The production will allow audiences a new opportunity to pick up theatre tickets and witness the musical celebration of the The Beatles, with many of their hit songs performed live onstage. The production is set to open in July following its closure at the Savoy Theatre back in February 2014 (following a previous run at the Prince of Wales Theatre).
The production chronicles the iconic performances of The Beatles throughout their career and will recreate these shows for audiences at the Garrick Theatre. Beginning with their show at the Cavern Club in Liverpool in the 1960s, we then see more performances as the foursome rise to the top and become the biggest band of all time. So audiences are then treated to their gigs for the Royal Variety Performance in London and The Ed Sullivan Show in New York City, with stage effects later showing the changes and progressions of their style and influences.
It has been more than 50 years since some of these performances took place and yet The Beatles remain the most renowned band in music history. To this day their songs are iconic and the individual members – Sir Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr – have become legendary.
The reason for this, of course, is their music, so audiences at the Garrick Theatre will hear live performances from their back catalogue. These range from Sgt. Pepper’s Longley Hearts Club Band and Strawberry Fields to Magical Mystery Tour, Yesterday, Help! and Hey Jude, among others.
The Garrick Theatre is currently the home of the high profile play Twelve Angry Men, based on the teleplay of the same name (and best known as a movie starring Henry Fonda and directed by Sidney Lumet). It has also been announced as the home of the musical The Scottsboro Boys when that is revived in October.
Let It Be runs at the West End’s Garrick Theatre from Thursday 10th July 2014 (previews from Wednesday 9th July 2014) to Sunday 21st September 2014.
