What's It All About? Burt Bacharach Reimagined at the Menier Chocolate Factory
New York Hit Heading to London Under the Direction of Steven Hoggett
The work of Burt Bacharach has many fans around the world and with this in mind it is no surprise that a show celebrating his work has had such success on the other side of the Atlantic.
So now it is the turn of London theatre audiences to get a look-in and it is has been revealed that it will be the Menier Chocolate Factory that gets to showcase What’s It All About? Burt Bacharach Reimagined this summer. The Southwark venue will set the stage for various songs from Bacharach and arrangements by Kyle Riabko, with Steven Hoggett’s acclaimed direction.
Perhaps having more in common with Thriller Live than Mamma Mia! What’s It All About is a musical journey that presents numerous performances of the singer songwriter’s work. It is described as a reintroduction to his work from the point of view of the latest generation.
Burt Bacharach has had a place in the spotlight for many decades, emerging in the 1950s and continuing to perform in the modern day. He has penned hits for himself and for others and many of these songs remain well known, from Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head from the film Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid to others like Say A Little Prayer and Alfie, among others.
Director Steven Hoggett is an award-winning choreographer whose work has been seen around the country. He earned the Laurence Olivier Award for Black Watch, which appeared in Scotland and London, and has also worked on a range of other well known musicals. His choreography credits also include Rocky The Musical, The Glass Menagerie, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time and Once The Musical, among others.
The Menier Chocolate Factory is currently the home of Buyer And Cellar, which sees Michael Urie play the character of Alex More, an attendant of Barbra Streisand’s personal shopping mall. It plays until May 2015.
