Wicked Celebrates 9 Years at the Apollo Victoria Theatre
After years of breaking box office records, Wicked is celebrating its 9th year at the Apollo Victoria Theatre, making the spellbinding musical the 9th longest running show in the West End.
The defying-gravity musical has been watched by nearly 7 million people in London alone and more than 50 million worldwide, making it no surprise why it has scooped up over 100 international accolades including 3 Tony Awards, 2 Olivier Awards and a Grammy.
As the show enters its 10th year it welcomes a new talented cast of spellbinding stars. With both leading ladies extending their contracts into 2016, Emma Hatton will again play the part of everyone’s favourite wicked witch Elphaba with Savannah Stevenson as Glinda. Joining them on stage will be Oliver Savile as Fiyero, Sean Kearns as Doctor Dillamond and Daniel Hope as Boq.
Carina Gillespie, who was previously cast as Nessarose on Wicked’s UK and Ireland Tour will be Standby for Glinda with Natalie Andreou Standby for Elphaba. On stage audiences can also look forward to seeing Liza Sadovy in the role of Madame Morrible, Katie Rowley Jones as Nessarose and Tom McGowan as The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Based on the best-selling novel by Gregory Maguire and taking inspiration from L Frank Baum’s classic tale The Wizard Of Oz, the musical tells the untold story of the witches of Oz and the unlikely friendship of Glinda The Good Witch and Elphaba The Wicked Witch of the West.
The show is directed by Joe Mantello with musical staging by Wayne Cilento. Not forgetting Stephen Schwartz, the man behind the enchanting music and lyrics including much-loved hits ‘The Wizard and I’, ‘For Good’ and ‘Defying Gravity’.
