(10mins) Head out onto the main road Strand. Cross street where possible and go right. When you reach the fork, veer left onto Aldwych.
The Aldwych Theatre has behind it an illustrious history. From its early days as a brand new venue in onwards to its current occupation as the West End’s home to Tina: The Tina Turner Musical, it has housed stellar West End productions.
W G R Sprague was the architect behind the building, also responsible for the Wyndham’s Theatre and the Lyceum Theatre, and is also a Grade II listed building.
The very first show to appear on the stage of the Aldwych Theatre took the form of “Bluebell in Fairlyand”, which was presented by the well known performer and playwright Seymour Hicks. A Streetcar Named Desire was performed at the venue in 1949, with the venue later the West End home of the Royal Shakespeare Company. Shows at the Aldwych Theatre include The Secret Garden and Dirty Dancing.
