American Idiot - Edinburgh

The Broadway musical based on the album by American rock band Green Day is set to hit the road in the United Kingdom and as part of this journey it lands on the stage of the Edinburgh Playhouse with a brief appearance in October 2012. It features an array of well known songs and hits upon some deep issues in a world following the attacks of 9/11, making for a truly unforgettable show for those that pick up theatre tickets.

It features a director Michael Mayer, a famous American talent who has been behind a wealth of shows on Broadway and also in the West End. His credits include “Thoroughly Modern Millie”, earning him a Tony Award nomination, and then he followed the show to London upon its transfer. He followed this up with the likes of “Spring Awakening” in 2006 before “American Idiot” landed on stage in New York in 2010. More recently he has directed “On a Clear Day You Can See Forever”.

With “American Idiot” he presents a show that looks at three friends in a suburban American setting, all of whom look must make a choice between their dreams and their safety at home.

The Playhouse Theatre continues to welcome some stand out musicals in 2012, with the hit “The Phantom of the Opera” among the other shows to arrive this year.
“American Idiot” is at the Edinburgh Playhouse from Monday 22nd October 2012 to Saturday 27th October 2012.
