Broken Wings

Age Restriction: Suitable for ages 8+

The Theatre Royal Haymarket, often the home of some classic plays starring the world’s leading actors, has a brief change of pace in the summer of 2018 as it provides the stage for this brand new musical Broken Wings.

A profoundly moving story featuring orchestral music, poetry and great performances, Broken Wings is a semi-staged production from Nadim Naaman, who provides the book and also provides the music and lyrics with Dana Al Fardan. The result is likely to be something that stays with audiences long after the final curtain call.

The story itself is based on the autobiography by Kahlil Gibran, the Lebonese-American poet, and follows a love story in Beirut at the beginning of the 20th century. That love story is between himself and Selma Karamy as we witness the problems that they face in a complicated world. Other characters include Farris Karamy, a businessman, Bishop Bulos Galib, and Mansour Bey Galib, the latter of whom becomes engaged to Selma during the course of the story. The show is told from Gibran’s perspective years later in New York City.

This will be an interesting production directed by Bronagh Lagan, whose previous credits include James And The Giant Peach on a UK tour, The Stationmaster at the Tristan Bates Theatre and RAGS The Musical at the Lyric Theatre, amongst others.

Broken Wings makes its brief appearance at the Theatre Royal Haymarket from Wednesday 1st August 2018.
