Don Quixote

When it comes to famous literary figures there are many iconic names that come to mind, from Shakespeare to Dickens. However, the work of Miguel de Cervantes must not be forgotten, as his novel Don Quixote is argued to be one of the first “modern” novels ever written. Having become a regular story told on stage, Don Quixote returns to the West End in a Royal Shakespeare Company production. So, if you want to see a literary classic presented on stage, you’ll want to book tickets for Don Quixote.

As the show starts, you’ll be thrust into the Medieval period and see Alonso Quixano who is being kept prisoner in a cell. Deciding that he wants to become a knight, Quixano takes on the persona of “Don Quixote” and sets off on his quest to become a knight with his farmer-sidekick Sancho Panza in tow. With an imagination wider than words can say, Don Quixote sends himself down many paths meeting people from all walks of life. But, when he tries to achieve “The Impossible Dream”, he faces dilemmas from lovers that he meets along the way.

Don Quixote is not the only production to tell this tale in the West End. In 2019, Man of La Mancha will be performed at the London Coliseum, in a musical re-interpretation of the story starring Kelsey Grammer and Danielle de Niese. Bringing this old tale to the West End, Don Quixote is a marvellous production with romantic, heroic behaviour.
