After stunning audiences at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, Jamie Lloyd directs an outstanding revival of Evita, transferring to the Barbican in 2020. Evita is based on the stories of Eva Perón, rising from the slums to become an influential political figure within Argentina. So, if you want to this musical theatre classic in a revival that’s been hailed as ‘transformative’, you’ll want to book tickets for Evita.

At the beginning of the show, audiences meet Eva Duarte, a poor Argentinian girl living in a small town who dreams big. Eventually rising from her lower status in society, Eva becomes close to Colonel Perón and the two fall in love. Married to President Juan Perón, she was a well-loved figurehead, considered an icon in her home country. Charting her life until she passed away at the tender age of 33, Evita tells of Eva Perón’s life in the spotlight in musical fashion, with hits including “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina” as well as “And The Money Kept Rollin’ In”.

With iconic songs, memorable characters and an inspirational story, Evita has stood the test of time since it was first staged in 1978, winning Olivier Awards for best new musical and Elaine Paige an Olivier for best actress. Evita has been revived three times in the West End: 2006, 2014 and 2017, but you won’t want to miss this explosive revival at the Barbican in 2020!
