What would happen if Granny was a gangster? This is the question that audiences will be asking with the return of this stage adaptation of David Walliams’ popular children’s book Gangsta Granny. The show makes its way back to the West End with a run at the Harold Pinter Theatre in the summer of 2018.

David Walliams is a name we have all heard of, particularly when it comes to television comedy. After all, he has spent many years performing alongside the likes of Matt Lucas and starring in shows like Little Britain. But in 2011 he decided to try his hand at something different and as a result Gangsta Granny was born.

And its success has led to big things. Not only has it been adapted for the BBC it has also been given the theatre treatment, with this stage version appearing around the country from November 2015, culminating in a successful run at the West End’s Garrick Theatre in 2017. Now another lucky group of theatregoers will get to experience the fun at the Harold Pinter Theatre.

The story centres on Ben, who must spend Friday evenings at his Granny’s house as that is when his parents go out to watch dancing. For Ben this is torture. After all, what could be worse than eating horrible cabbage and horrible eggs, whilst playing board games and not being able to watch TV?

But Granny has some tricks up her sleeve and it soon becomes clear that there’s more to her than meets the eye. Ben is going to find out what it’s like to have a Gangsta Granny.

And if you’re wondering if the show is in safe hands then you’ll be happy to know that Neal Foster, of the Birmingham Stage Company, is behind this adaptation. You might know him as the man responsible for shows like Horrible Histories: Barmy Britain Parts 1, 2 and 3, in addition to other Horrible Histories shows. He has enjoyed quite a presence in the West End in recent years and Gangsta Granny will cement his and the Birmingham Stage Company as an in-demand group.

So for a great day out in the West End look no further than Gangsta Granny as this fantastic children’s show runs at the Harold Pinter Theatre from Wednesday 15th August 2018.
