The West End once again proves to be the best place to witness some stand-out and unique shows. The Noël Coward Theatre, in particular, has been on the receiving end of some of the most talked-about productions in recent years and this tradition continues in 2018.

That is because one of the latest productions to appear here is the latest from Conor McPherson, which will combine a wonderful story with classic music of Bob Dylan to create something unique on a West End stage. The result is the show Girl From The North Country, a story that takes audiences to the United States in the early decades of the 20th century.

Specifically, the show is set in the town of Duluth, next to Lake Superior in Minnesota, and it is here that we met a range of characters facing problems at a guest house during the Great Depression in the 1930s. A range of lonely individuals and families find themselves at the site and it might be up to one person to help them find a way out.

As a piece of work from acclaimed playwright Conor McPherson it is a show that audiences will wish to keep a close eye on. After all, it is not often that an acclaimed writer utilises the work of one of the world’s best known singer-songwriters to craft a show, making Girl From The North Country a must-see. And considering the success of the show when it was seen at the Old Vic in the summer of 2017, it is certainly destined for West End success.

McPherson has been presenting his work since the 1990s, beginning with Rum And Vodka in 1992 and, later in the decade, The Weir in the West End, a show that earned him a Laurence Olivier Award in 1999. Since then he has also been behind shows likes of Dublin Carol, The Seafarer (which earned both Tony and Laurence Olivier Award nominations), The Veil and The Night Alive, to name but a few. Such shows have led to his esteem growing over the decades since he first emerged, making him one of the most exciting playwrights in the world.

And with that in mind Girl From The North Country has great company on McPherson’s list of credits and this makes it one of the more anticipated shows of 2018.

Girl From The North Country runs at the Noël Coward Theatre from Thursday 11th January 2018 (previews from Friday 29th December 2017).
