Written by Victor Hugo in 1862, the musical is set in the revolutionary period of France at the turn of the 18th century. There, we meet Jean Valjean, a convict who has served many years for just stealing a loaf of bread. He is eleased from prison by an infatuated Inspector Javert who dedicates his life to ensuring Valjean remains on the straight and narrow. Valjean is determined to start afresh, especially when he is left to care for Cosette. What follows is a dramatic tale sending audiences on a journey across France, as student revolutionaries gear up to fight on the barricade and protect their country.

A story of togetherness, Les Misérables is one of the world’s biggest musicals and has been translated into 22 languages. Reaching people around the world, it is a cultural phenomenon that has transcended throughout generations. With the star-casting in Les Misérables – The All-Star Staged Concert, there is something for everyone to enjoy at the upcoming production, playing at the Gielgud Theatre for just 16 weeks.

The cast includes Alfie Boe as Jean Valjean, Michael Ball as Javert, Carrie Hope Fletcher as Fantine and Matt Lucas as Thénardier.

Carrie Hope Fletcher was the first British actress to play Eponine (2013) and her younger self (2001).

Les Miserables has won the Olivier Award for most popular show in 2012 and 2014.

John Owen-Jones will play the role of Jean Valjean for three scheduled performances a week: Monday, Wednesday matinees and Thursdays.
