Latest Review: "Great first half, decent second half. The songs were mostly great, and the singers were good. Audrey..."

When it comes to fantastic musicals, Little Shop Of Horrors is up there amongst the best. Alan Menken and Howard Ashman’s cult classic has amassed a huge following since it first appeared in the 1980s and now it makes its way to the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre.

The show appears as part of the 2018 season, with Maria Aberg directing the comic horror musical and introducing the latest generation of theatregoers to characters like Seymour and Audrey. And as it appears in the open environment of Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, it will make this one of the most memorable productions of the show.

Little Shop Of Horros focuses on the character of Seymour, a worker in a florist who happens upon a plant that will feed on humans. The results are horrifying and hilarious as we hear musical numbers like Suddenly Seymour, Skid Row (Downtown), Sudden Changes and The Meek Shall Inherit, amongst a wealth of others.

The musical was first staged in 1982, first of all off-Broadway and eventually headed to London’s West End in 1983 with a run at the Comedy Theatre. Many will also remember the fantastic film version, which graced cinema screens in 1986.

But now it heads to the Open Air Theatre, where it will join a host of other shows gracing the Regent’s Park venue in its summer 2018 season, including The Taming Of The Shrew, Peter Pan and As You Like It, to name but a few.

Little Shop Of Horrors will take pride of place in the heart of summer as it runs at the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre from Tuesday 3rd August 2018.
