Latest Review: "This really was a super show. The entire cast were a delight to watch with the two leads outstanding..."

The Southwark Playhouse’s venue known as The Vault becomes the new home of the musical “Mack and Mabel” in July, giving London theatre audiences a chance to revisit the Michael Stewart and Jerry Herman hit, which first appeared on the stage in the 1970s. The cast includes Norman Bowman and Laura Pitt-Pulford as the titular characters whilst Thom Southerland takes on the reins as director.

Taking audiences back in time to 1911, “Mack and Mabel” focuses on the early days of the motion picture industry, with a story of Keystone Studios, the romantic relationships that existed between the director and actor Mack Sennett and Mabel Normand. We look at the pair throughout the years right through to Mabel’s death nearly 20 years later.

Norman Bowman is an actor whose work has spanned the stage and screen, with television credits like “Holby City” and “Mister Eleven”. He has appeared on the stage of the Open Air Theatre in Regent’s Park where his credits have include “The Boy Friend” and “Lady Be Good”, among others.

This should be a stand-out show for the South London venue as it is a version of a classic musical, which received Tony Award nominations when it was premiered on Broadway a made headlines in the UK when Torvill and Dean used its music as part of their Figure Skating routine.

“Mack and Mabel” is at The Vault, Southwark Playhouse, from Thursday 5th July 2012 to Saturday 25th August 2012.
