If it’s a sing-song during an evening of karaoke, or you’re an avid fan, nobody is able to avoid the music of ABBA. Having performed their first song “Waterloo” in 1974 that won them the Eurovision Song Contest, this Swedish band have grown into one of the greatest bands the world has ever seen. It’s no surprise then that a musical featuring their greatest hits was born. So, if you want to see a musical that’s full of feel-good music that will get you on your feet and singing along, then MAMMA MIA! is a show that’s right up your alley.
Sophie Sheridan dreams of her father walking down the aisle. However, it’s made challenging when she doesn’t’ know who the father is and there are 3 potential fathers! Without catching the attention of her mother, Donna, Sophie invites her 3 potential dads to the wedding so she can find out who the father is once and for all. But no West End musical is without a touch of drama, and MAMMA MIA! provides this in bucketloads. When Donna learns the three men who she had a romantic past with are all together. Ultimately, Donna must face up to her choices to make Sophie’s wedding day a dream come true.
After the 2008 film was first screened, MAMMA MIA! has enjoyed an unparalleled surge in popularity and is still feeling the knock-on effects of the sequel, released in 2018. With songs including “Dancing Queen”, “Super Trouper” and “I Have A Dream”, you’ll be saying “Thank You For the Music” as you watch Mamma Mia at the Novello Theatre.
