Whilst Theatreland is home to an array of unmissable and acclaimed shows, few can top the admiration felt for the show running at the Cambridge Theatre – Matilda The Musical. Ever since the Royal Shakespeare Company production was first seen in Stratford-upon-Avon it has been one of the most talked-about musicals in the country, which has now wowed international audiences as well.

The London run continues to draw in the crowds, however, and it is showing no signs of slowing down.

After all, theatregoers know that this is an unbeatable opportunity to witness something has united people in praise. From its current West End home to its appearances on Broadway, it has demonstrated the enormous talent of its creators – from musician Tim Minchin to writer Dennis Kelly and director Matthew Warchus – and this will continue for many years to come.

Matilda The Musical was first seen in Stratford-upon-Avon in 2010, where it had been celebrated as one of the best new musicals of the decade, a status that was cemented when this West End production opened in 2011. Now, audiences can still catch Matilda The Musical at the Cambridge Theatre where it continues strong in Theatreland.

Roald Dahl’s Matilda tells the story of the eponymous character – a girl that has been bestowed with extraordinary intellect from an early age. Having read all of the books in her house before the age of 5 she proceeds to the local library and reads all the children’s books there, before moving on to school where her intellect continues to give her advantages and disadvantages. Then she happens upon another gift – psychokinetic powers – which she is able to use to punish all of those that deserve it.

Many familiar faces have been a part of the cast since it emerged on the theatre scene and this has ensured that performers have had plenty of experience to bring to the table, whilst also attracting eager theatregoers. This is also likely to be something that continues throughout its run. After all, with a reputation for greatness, performers across the theatre world will want to be a part of the action.

With Matilda The Musical, London theatre audiences will also get to experience the celebrated music from comedian Tim Minchin, which has contributed to the show’s worldwide reputation as one of the best musicals to emerge from the UK in many years. Minchin is known for his appearances in television shows like Californication and Never Mind The Buzzcocks, as well as his live shows such as Ready For This. Therefore, audiences know they are in for something special with the music he has created for the show.

So make sure you add Matilda The Musical to your list of must-see shows on your visit to London’s West End. It really is something that has to be seen to be believed.
