Romeo and Juliet RSC

Shakespeare’s most famous piece of work appears at the Barbican Theatre as part of this season of Royal Shakespeare Company productions. Bally Gill and Karen Fishwick are the title characters, whilst Erica Whyman directs them in an emotional and memorable story.

For fans of the classic tale, this will be a must-see production staged by the world’s leading company of Shakespearean works, all presented under the awe-inspiring surroundings of the Barbican in London. It will also provide the latest generation of theatregoers with the opportunity to revisit an iconic work.

Shakespeare’s story focuses on the teenagers of Romeo and Juliet, who have been taught to hate one another. In the original text this is because they are part of the warring families of the Montagues and Capulets, but they defy their parents to become lovers, which leads to the famous tragic ending that has stayed with audiences across four centuries.

The text was first penned in the 1590s and has been staged regularly around the world ever since, whilst also being adapted for the screen in numerous film versions (including the famous 1990s film Romeo + Juliet by Baz Luhrmann). As such its legacy has grown so that it is one of the most famous plays of all time.

And the presence of some top performing talent in the production at the Barbican ensures plenty of demand for tickets. Karen Fishwick, as Juliet, has appeared in a range of productions north of the border in her native Scotland, from Lady Windermere’s Fan to Our Ladies OF Perpetual Succour.

And now she heads to the Barbican Theatre for this RSC season (that also includes Macbeth and The Merry Wives Of Windsor), with Romeo And Juliet running from Friday 2nd November 2018.
