The capital has a great history when it comes to comedic musicals in the forms of spoofs and satires, whether it is Avenue Q and Book Of Mormon or Spamalot and Forbidden Broadway, and that is why audiences continue to come back for more.

With that in mind the Menier Chocolate Factory is sure to be in for a hit when it hosts the UK premiere of Spamilton, a spoof of – you’ve guessed it – Hamilton, which takes an affectionate swipe at one of the world’s most famous shows (that continues to win awards to boot).

So expect a story that puts a smile on faces throughout the auditorium as hilarious songs are belted out by talented performers and the expert writing of Gerard Alessandrini propels the narrative forwards. It features characters like Alexander Hamilton, Beyonce, Aaron Burr, King George and Gloria Estefan, with Lin-Manuel Miranda portrayed onstage as well.

The mentioned musical numbers have been confirmed to include the likes of Raise A Glass To Broadway, Book Of No Mo Mormons and Lin-Manuel’s New York City, amongst others, ensuring that this is a great celebration, not only of Hamilton, but of a range of shows playing around the world.

Spamilton first appeared off-Broadway in 2016 and has since been staged across the United States, including in cities like Chicago, and has accumulated a wealth of positive reviews from critics and audiences. So producers will clearly be hoping for big things when it finally makes its way to London.

And it all appears at the Menier Chocolate Factory, a venue that regularly welcomes some of the most exciting shows outside of the West End. It was previously the home of Forbidden Broadway, another celebratory spoof show from writer Gerard Alessandrini, and this year hosts Kiss Of The Spider Woman amongst its big hitters. It is often a great location in which to witness future West End hits as they sometimes make the transition across the river to the theatre district.

Spamilton runs at the Menier Chocolate Factory in Southwark from Thursday 12th July 2018.
