Ask audiences to name a stand-out Rodgers and Hammerstein musical and they will be spoilt for choice, with Oklahoma and South Pacific amongst the big names. But surely audiences will place The King And I at the top of the list as well, with the story of Anna and the King of Siam playing out alongside some unforgettable musical numbers.

It is a firm favourite of audiences around the world, winning numerous awards since it was first staged in the early 1950s, and has been revived on countless occasions right through to the modern day.

So with that in mind there is great anticipation for this new Broadway production headed to the London Palladium in 2018. The critically acclaimed and popular staging makes its way to the West End intact and ensures that London theatregoers will be able to experience the powerful and unforgettable story once again.

Kelli O’Hara and Ken Watanabe, fresh from causing a sensation on the other side of the Atlantic, return to play Anna and the King of Siam at the London Palladium. In doing so they will give London theatregoers a chance to experience the show as it was seen during its previous acclaimed run.

The story focuses on the eponymous King, who rules Siam and wants to make changes by bringing in a British schoolteacher, Anna, whom he hopes will help to modernise. This tumultuous relationship is tinted by a secret admiration for one another that makes The King And I both a love story and one of upheaval.

And along the way we hear the musical numbers that were penned by Richard Rodgers, including I Whistle A Happy Tune, Getting To Know You, We Kiss In A Shadow and Shall We Dance? amongst others. Such numbers led to the original production winning the Tony Award for Best Musical and ensured that the film adaptations and subsequent revivals would attract countless fans.

And now The King And I makes its way back to the United Kingdom, playing at the London Palladium under the direction of Bartlett Sher, from Thursday 21st June 2018.
