A trip to the West End just wouldn’t be complete without a visit to one of the stand-out jukebox musicals. Thriller Live is one of many shows that celebrates the career of a well known superstar – in this case Michael Jackson – and provides audiences with a memorable and toe-tapping journey though their back catalogue.
From Mamma Mia! to Motown the Musical, these jukebox musicals have a special place in the hearts of audiences and their longevity is a testament to their enduring appeal.
After all, whilst many shows have come and gone in the capital, jukebox musicals remain as some of the most vibrant productions in town. Thriller Live, for example, had been seen across Europe prior to its arrival in London but its stature here has seen it go from strength to strength.
Then again, audiences cannot get enough of Michael Jackson. The King of Pop was a musician of which everyone has heard, with a career that spanned across four decades, producing a back catalogue of records that sold hundreds of millions around the world. Thriller alone is still the best selling album of all time audiences still can’t get enough of his work. It made his death in 2009 all the more shocking, and people flocked to the Lyric Theatre on its announcement, to celebrate the life of the famous singer.
To make sure that fans can experience something as close to witnessing Jackson live as possible, Thriller Live features some incredible musical numbers alongside spectacular choreography. A lot of money has been put into creating an authentic experience, with high production values and a wide range of talented individuals onstage.
So this is the perfect way of celebrating the career of the late King of Pop as we chronicle his decades at the top, covering his early time in the Jackson 5 and progressing to his myriad chart hits that cemented his place in popular culture for years to come. Along the way we experience the hit songs that made his name and remember why he really was the King of Pop!
So in a Theatreland with many jukebox musicals, Thriller Live still manages to stand out and attract a large audiences year in and year out. Long may this continue at the Lyric Theatre in London’s West End.
