Tina - The Tina Turner Musical

A lot has been said about the abundant jukebox musicals coming in and out of the capital, and it is true that the West End is already home to many such shows, but that does not make it any less exciting when a brand new production makes its way to the stage.

With that in mind it is time to get excited all over again as Tina, a show dedicated to the pop icon Tina Turner, heads to the Aldwych Theatre in London, with Mamma Mia! director Phyllida Lloyd calling the shots.

It will be an opportunity to celebrate the performer whilst also enjoying an unbeatable night out at one of the West End’s top venues. What more could you ask for?

As a musical, Tina sets out to deliver audiences her life story whilst also lighting up the stage with some stand-out musical numbers plucked from her impressive back catalogue.

Penned by Katori Hall (alongside Kees Prins and Frank Ketelaar), the show will explore her early years, progressing through to the start of her career and eventually moving on to decades at the top of her game, when she released classic record after classic record.

Along the way we will hear many of her hits as talented performers belt out her classics. Suffice to say, for Tina Turner fans, this will be an unmissable treat.

During her career Tina Turner has released various solo albums, beginning with 1974’s Tina Turns The Country On! and progressing through to the likes of Acid Queen in 1975, Private Dancer in 1984, Foreign Affair in 1989, What’s Love Got To Do With It in 1993 and Twenty Four Seven in 1999. Along the way she has also made appearances in film and television shows, from Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome to Last Action Hero and others.

So to say that Tina Turner has had a profound effect on popular culture would be an understatement and this new musical is a testament to her lasting appeal.

So now she is immortalised on a West End stage as Tina joins a host of other jukebox musicals in the capital – such as Mamma Mia! and Thriller Live – when it runs at the West End’s Aldwych Theatre. It opens on Tuesday 17th April 2018 (with previews from Wednesday 21st March 2018).
