Latest Review: "Absolutely fabulous show. The whole cast was brilliant, particularly Tamsin Greig. It was sad, funn..."

Television and theatre star Tamsin Greig returns to the West End from December/January to appear in Women On The Verge Of A Nervous Breakdown at the Playhouse Theatre. The show marks the first time that the actress has appeared in a musical theatre production following a career of plays and television comedy, the former leading to a Laurence Olivier Award win in 2007.

The production is directed by Bartlett Sher, the Broadway director who is not only responsible for Women On The Verge Of A Nervous Breakdown in New York but also numerous other production on that side of the Atlantic as well, from South Pacific to Golden Boy.

But with Women On The Verge Of A Nervous Breakdown he presents a show in which a women whose relationships with the opposite sex lead to an highly eventful two days in Madrid as she and her friends experience romance, passion and heartbreak. A convoluted web is weaved when the woman attempts to discover the reasons that her lover left her, leading to her meeting with the man’s wife and child, in addition to his latest lover.

It is based on the 1988 movie by Pedro Almodóvar, adding various musical numbers to the mix that include My Crazy Heart, Madrid, The Microphone and Mother’s Day, among many others. It first appeared on Broadway in 2010.

Tamsin Greig is best known to audiences for her television work, which has included starring roles in various well known comedy series. These range from Black Books and Green Wing to more recent programmes like Friday Night Dinner and Episodes. She has also provided her voice to The Archers, made appearances in films like Shaun Of The Dead and worked for events like The Secret Policeman’s Ball. But this is not the first time she has appeared on a West End stage, with previous roles in the likes of Much Ado About Nothing for the Royal Shakespeare Company, The Little Dog Laughed at the Garrick Theatre and The God Of Carnage at the Gielgud Theatre.

The Playhouse Theatre is home to 1984 and Speed-the-Plow during 2014. Women On The Verge Of A Nervous Breakdown, however, takes pride of place at the venue from 12th January 2015 (with previews from 20th December 2014).
