All About Eve

London has been the home to a wide range of stand-out shows that boast an important legacy, from past hits like Cat On A Hot Tin Roof to ongoing musicals like Les Misérables, but the latest production headed to the West End is a stage version of an iconic and unforgettable film – All About Eve.

Gillian Anderson and Lily James have been cast as the two leads in the production, with Ivo van Hove directing from his own adapted script.

With the story of character Margo Channing taking centre stage, All About Eve looks at the relationships between stars, fans and age, with the 40 year old Channing meeting the young fan Eve Harrington and the latter turning the Broadway performer’s life upside down.

It is based on the 1950 film that starred Bette Davis in the lead role, making it the latest in a long line of films-turned-stage productions that have appeared in the capital to great success. But with this production audiences will also be able to revisit a classic story in a new guise, something that will undoubtedly be enticing to West End aficionados when All About Eve opens its doors.

After all, the presence of a performer of the calibre of Gillian Anderson ensures plenty of attention for a show that needs little promotion. Anderson is the acclaimed and well known performer from television’s The X-Files, The Fall, Great Expectations and Hannibal, to name but a few. She has accumulated some acclaimed credits on both sides of the Atlantic, appearing in A Doll’s House at the Donmar Warehouse and in British films like The Last King Of Scotland and A Cock And Bull Story. She has also starred in Hollywood films such as The X-Files: I Want To Believe and The Spy Who Dumped Me.

When she appears in All About Eve she stars alongside James, Rhashan Stone, Sheila Reid and Monica Dolan.

So if you want to see an acclaimed story retold on the stage and starring some admired actors, All About Eve should be your first stop. The production runs at the Noël Coward Theatre from Tuesday 12th February 2019 (previews from Saturday 2nd February 2019).
