Around The World In 80 Days

Back in the 1870s the world was first treated to the adventures of Phileas Fogg as he embarked on his journey around the world. The novel by Jules Verne has enjoyed a long time in the spotlight with many versions of its tale recreated over the decades since its publication.

And now the latest version of the tale comes to the stage in London as Lucy Bailey directs Around The World In 80 Days at the St James Theatre, with a small cast of performers taking on a wealth of roles, ensuring a memorable adventure on a London stage this winter season.
Around The World In 80 Days focuses on the famous Phileas Fogg as he makes the wager of £20,000 that he can make his way around the world in only 80 days. So off he sets with Passepartout in tow on the trip of a lifetime.

A classic adventure that sees many 19th century locations explored, few stories capture imaginations quite like this Jules Verne classic. It has been adapted for the stage by Laura Eason.

Like another show in the capital (which closes in September 2015) – The 39 Steps at the Criterion Theatre – it employs on a small numbers of actors to portray to various characters in the show.

Director Lucy Bailey has been behind a wealth of acclaimed productions over the years and as a result Around The World In 80 Days will be added to a list of credits that already includes the likes of Titus Andronicus at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in 2014 and Fortune’s Fool at the Old Vic in 2013.

Around The World In 80 Days is at the St James Theatre from Thursday 3rd December 2015 (previews from Thursday 26th November 2015).
