Bitter Wheat

David Mamet’s thought-provoking plays have been at the centre of controversy. His first plays including Sexual Perversity in Chicago and American Buffalo helped him establish a long career, however it was not until 1984 when Glengarry Glen Ross won him a Pulitzer Prize that David Mamet became a leading playwright. Now, his latest play Bitter Wheat will receive a world premiere in the West End in 2019, with John Malkovich leading the cast as Hollywood producer Barney Fein in this upcoming West End production. So, if you want to see a brand new play and one of our generations most respected actors on stage, you’ll want to see Bitter Wheat.

Barney Fein is a Hollywood mogul, with an established career and presence in the American film industry. His global power is unrivalled, however the influences of money, sex and power ultimately lead to his downfall. Falling from a great position of power into a shamed, depraved mogul, Fein’s legacy in Hollywood changes.

Bitter Wheat is not the first play by David Mamet to address sexual behaviour. The 1992 play Oleanna involves two characters during the play, exploring the relationship of a male university professor and a female student, with allegations of harassment at the centre of this story. Bitter Wheat is sure to give dramatic insight into accusations in relation to recent behaviour in Hollywood.
