Bernstein’s classic operetta based on Voltaire’s satire comes to the Menier Chocolate Factory, one of London’s most popular venues outside of the West End. Featuring choreography from Adam Cooper, well known for appearing in the recent West End hit Singin’ In The Rain, as well as direction from Matthew White, the show will be a must-see event from November 2013 and throughout the Christmas season.

The production also boasts an impressive cast that consists of Scarlett Strallen, David Thaxton, Fra Lee, Carly Anderson, Jeremy Batt, Christopher Jacobsen, Cassidy Janson, Frankie Jenna, Ben Lewis, Rachel Spurrell, Helen Walsh and Matt Wilman.

The story is one that has been told countless times over the last two and a half centuries, with the character of Candide journeying through a life of happiness, loss and, of course, musical numbers. Voltaire penned it in the 1750s and it was published at the end of the decade before Leonard Bernstein came along two centuries later to offer this operetta to audiences worldwide. Now audiences can witness the story alongside musical numbers like Quiet and Make Our Garden Grow, among others.

And one of those singing such classics is Scarlett Strallen, who heads to the stage having made a name for herself in a wealth of west end shows, including the mentioned Singin’ In The Rain alongside Adam Cooper. Her recent credits have included A Chorus Line at the London Palladium, The Witches Of Eastwick at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, Mamma Mia! at the Prince Edward Theatre and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at the London Palladium, among others. She has also been nominated for Laurence Olivier Awards for Singin’ In The Rain and HMS Pinafore when that ran at the Open Air Theatre. So she is a stand-out performer whose experiences will ensure a memorable performance at the Menier Chocolate Factory.

So there will be a lot of familiar faces on the stage of the Menier Chocolate Factory from November 2013 as Candide opens under the direction of Matthew White. It will not be one to miss.

Candide follows The Lyons at the Menier Chocolate Factory with a run beginning on Monday 2nd December 2013 (with previews from Friday 22nd November 2013).
