Those heading to Trafalgar Studios 2 in June will be gearing up to witness the new production at the West End venue – “Chicken” by Mike Batistick. The production has already been seen on the other side of the Atlantic and at the Hackney Empire on this side of the pond. Those that heard about the production on its previous staging in the capital will undoubtedly recognise some of the names associated with the show as it will be retaining some of its cast for its West End transfer - including George Georgiou. So when theatre tickets become available it is likely to be a show to keep an eye on.
In “Chicken” we are introduced to three central characters: Wendell (Craig Kelly), his wife Lina (Lisa Maxwell) and Floyd (Georgiou). The latter is sleeping on the couch of the married couple and his presence in their home attracts numerous visits during the course of the play; people from the Bronx who see Floyd as a father figure and even Floyd’s own father. To make some money to take on a rooster and they plan to train him up in illegal cockfights, but the fighting could begin before the chicken even takes to the ring.
The cast members have numerous credits between them, with Kelly known from “Coronation Street” and Maxwell best remembered for “The Bill”.
“Mercury Fur” remains at the venue prior to its arrival, with “Chicken” running at the Trafalgar Studios 2 from Tuesday 26th June 2012 (previews from Monday 25th June 2012) to Saturday 21st July 2012.
