Faustus: That Damned Woman

Reimagining the Faust myth at the Lyric Hammersmith, award-winning playwright Chris Bush explores what humans must sacrifice in Faustus: That Damned Woman. As Faustus becomes a woman, follow her as she makes the ultimate sacrifice in order to change the course of history.

“My name is Johanna Faustus. I was born almost four hundred years ago.
I gave my soul to achieve the impossible.
I watched this city grow sick and I swore to heal it.
I might be damned, but I would save the world to spite the Devil.”

Jodie McNee will play the lead role of Johanna Faustus.

The Faust myth is inspired by Johann Georg Faust, a 15th-century tale from Germanic legend that sees one man sell his soul to the devil.
