Back in the 1970s audiences were first presented with the unique Harold And Maude, a film that grew in reputation in the decades since its release and is now regarded as a classic. But the big screen version is not the only way of experiencing this iconic tale from Colin Higgins as the writer himself also penned this stage adaptation, which now runs at the Charing Cross Theatre.

Linda Marlowe takes on the role of Maude, the old lady that strikes up a romance with a young and suicidal teenager, Harold (Patrick Walshe McBride). This darkly comic story explores Harold’s relationship with death and takes audiences on an intriguing and thought-provoking journey.

This is a story that has fans around the world and so an audience is already guaranteed, but the presence of Linda Marlowe will only serve to add to the excitement. The performer is known for her work with Steven Berkoff and has toured the show Berkoff’s Women under the direction of Josie Lawrence (appearing at venues like the St James Theatre). Meanwhile, her credits also include television shows like EastEnders, Casualty and Coronation Street, amongst a host of others.

But in tackling Maude in Colin Higgins’ story we will see her at her best as she follows in the footsteps of some big names, including Ruth Gordon, who played the role in the original 1971 film.

Harold And Maude also stars Johnson Wills, Anne White, Samuel Townsend, Joanna Hickman, Christopher Dickins, Rebecca Caine and Anthony Cable.

The production continues at the Charing Cross Theatre in London.
