King Charles III

Audiences at the Wyndham’s Theatre can now follow in the footsteps of those at the Almeida Theatre as Mike Bartlett’s much-talked-about King Charles III transfers to the West End. The productions sees Tim Pigott-Smith appear in the role of the titular future King, with Margot Leicester in the role of Camilla.

The cast is completed with Lydia Wilson as Princess Catherine and Prince Harry portrayed by Richard Goulding, plus actors like Nyasha Hatendi, Adam Jones, Tom Robertson, Nicholas Rowe and Tafline Steen also taking on roles. Meanwhile, the acclaimed Rupert Goold takes on directing duties as the Artistic Director of the Almeida Theatre.

King Charles III takes us into the future, beyond the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, and imagines the time in which Charles sits on the throne as the Head of State. The show begins with the former Queen’s funeral and then progresses to explore the UK’s political system, delving into issues such as press regulation and the powers held by the royal family to shape laws. It depicts a time of crisis in the country and also features appearances from various other royal family members as the story unfolds.

Tim Pigott-Smith is a well known English actor who has proven himself perfect for the role of King Charles. The performer has previously appeared in some critically acclaimed shows, including the well known Enron at the Chichester Festival Theatre, with further credits like A Delicate Balance at the Almeida Theatre and Cymbeline for the Royal Shakespeare Company. Those that have not picked up theatre tickets in recent years may also recognise him from the likes of Quantum Of Solace (the James Bond movie), V For Vendetta, Gangs Of New York and Alexander, among various others.

The play received a lot of attention when it ran at the Almeida Theatre from April to May, earlier this year so it is a great choice to follow up Skylight, with Billy Nighy and Carey Mulligan, another high profile production that is running at the Wyndham’s Theatre prior to its arrival.

King Charles III makes its anticipated appearance at the Wyndham’s Theatre from Thursday 11th September 2014 (previews from Tuesday 2nd September 2014).
