Nine Night

A play based on the Jamaican traditions of mourning loved ones, Nine Night gives a heartfelt insight into how the tradition affects the lives of those who are still living. Written by Natasha Gordon, the show neatly blends two cultures together to explore the life and death of families over “nine nights” of celebration. So, if you want to learn about worldly traditions and see a show that’s running for a limited engagement, Nine Night is the show for you.

The ‘Nine Night’ of the title refers to the nine nights of wake that is honoured to the deceased in Caribbean nations. In the show we meet those that knew Gloria before her passing and during the nine evenings of consumption and reminiscing audiences will share in the compassion and feelings depicted.

Nine Night plays at Trafalgar Studios after entertaining audiences at the National Theatre. Starring playwright Natasha Gordon, it’s the next step in her career that’s seen her perform in shows at the Young Vic and the Royal Court. Now, it’s her writing that gets to be in the West End limelight. Enjoy the debut play which details how an endless parade of mourners, storytelling and a bit of rum here and there can create a powerful show.
