Party Time / Celebration

During an impressive career Harold Pinter penned some of the most beloved British plays of the 20th century, ensuring a lasting legacy when he passed away in 2008. Now, ten years after his death, the Jamie Lloyd Company presents The Pinter At The Pinter Season at the fitting location of the Harold Pinter Theatre, with Lloyd and others directing a range of one-act plays as part of double, triple and quadruple bills.

One of these double bills includes Party Time and Celebration, two pieces penned in the later years of Pinter’s career, and they feature cast members Celia Imrie, Tracy-Ann Oberman, Abraham Popoola and John Simm working under the direction of Jamie Lloyd.

Party Time is Pinter’s 1991 play that is set at a party thrown by the wealthy Gavin at a high-end apartment. The party manages to continue despite the presence of military vehicles on the street, with the state stamping down with an iron fist. The show attacks rich elite in a comic and poignant way, which will make it a great part of the season when it appears at the Harold Pinter Theatre.

Celebration also deals with the wealthy members of society, focusing on different couples at a high-end restaurant, two of whom are celebrating the anniversary of Lambert and Julie, with the others joining them and interacting with the waiter, and the matresse d’.

Like many bills of the season, this one features a stellar cast, which includes the instantly recognisable and widely admired Celia Imrie, whose career has included both high profile stage shows, films and television productions. Her credits include The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and Calendar Girls, as well as theatrical work like Noises Off at the Old Vic Theatre.

So audiences will be glad to see her again as Party Time and Celebration are staged as part of The Pinter At The Pinter Season at the Harold Pinter Theatre from Thursday 6th September 2018
