Present Laughter

The hilarious tale of Garry Essendine will be told on the London stage once more, as Present Laughter is revived at the Old Vic, starring Andrew Scott. With a star-studded cast set to perform Noel Coward’s “autobiographical play” often regarded as one of Coward’s best, it’s bound to be one of this summer’s hottest tickets. So, if you’re wanting to see a classic theatre text performed by some of the greatest actors around, you’ll want to book your tickets for Present Laughter.

Set in Garry Essendine’s London flat, we meet the middle-aged actor whose career is fledgling after great success in younger years. When the comic actor begins to prepare for his trip to Africa, his life spirals out of control, falling into a mid-life crisis. Dealing with his colleagues, his secretary and his ex-wife, Essendine has to make big decisions about who to love and laugh with.

This is not the first time that Present Laughter has been performed in the West End. After the play’s premiere in 1947 at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, it’s been revived every decade since the 1960s, with the National Theatre reviving the play in 2007. This newest revival of a twentieth century classic is sure to bring the play’s old charm into the present day, perfect for those who want to catch a masterclass in theatre. You’ll want to book your tickets now for Present Laughter.
