Rasheeda Speaking

The topic of workplace racism gets a lot of attention in the modern world and whilst we are supposed to be long past the days of overt racist acts, it is clear that there is plenty of room for improvement.

With that in mind, theatregoers will be thrust head first into this conflict at the Trafalgar Studios 2 this April as Joel Drake Johnson’s acclaimed US play Rasheeda Speaking makes its way to the Whitehall venue. Boasting experienced cast members, a director in Jonathan O’Boyle and a celebrated script from an acclaimed playwright, it is bound to be a must-see for audiences as it gets its UK premiere.

Workplace racism is depicted at a Chicago hospital, with two friends pitted against one another thanks to the actions of their boss, a white doctor. The relationship dynamic is forever changed when one of the friends, who is white, is forced to spy on the other, who is a black secretary, with the ultimate aim being the sacking of the latter.

Rasheeda Speaking first appeared on the other side of the Atlantic, in Chicago, and was staged in New York in 2014, providing audiences with the latest piece of work from writer Joel Drake Johnson, whose other plays have also appeared in the United States. His credits include The First Grade, A Blue Moon, Four Places and The Fall To Earth, amongst others.

But now it is the turn of West End theatregoers to experience his work as Rasheeda Speaking runs at the Trafalgar Studios 2 on Whitehall from Wednesday 18th April 2018.
