The Olivier National Theatre revisits the Biblical story of Salome but in a way that will be both new and unique for London theatre audiences. It comes from the award-winning playwright Yaël Farber and features a talented cast of performers, from Uriel Emil to Yasmin Levy, giving audiences a chance to witness a compelling and captivating show on South Bank.

From its New Testament origins to Oscar Wilde’s famous 1891 play, the story of Salome has been spread around the world and now it returns to the stage, this time centring on a revolution in a country struggling under occupation and the character of Salomé who is the focus of our story.

The show itself has already earned many awards for writer Yaël Farber thanks to its appearance in the United States and there is no reason London audiences won’t react with similar enthusiasm when it lands on these shores.

After all, Salome wasn’t the first of Farber’s shows to win acclaim. The writer/director’s previous productions have also found admirers and earned awards in the process, from Les Blancs to The Crucible (both as director), with the latter earning her an Olivier Award nomination in 2015. Her other credits include Mies Julie (which she penned and directed) and Molora.

And it is only fitting that the show appears on one of the capital’s most prestigious stages in the form of the Olivier at the National Theatre. It is a location that regularly presents some of the most exciting shows around and they always manage to find a large audience.

Salome runs at the Olivier National Theatre from Tuesday 2nd May 2017.
