In 2018 a show opened at the Young Vic Theatre that took audiences by surprise, providing a captivating evening that is impossible to turn away from. That show is The Inheritance, a two-part production from writer Matthew Lopez and director Stephen Daldry that is sure to be talked-about for many years to come.

The story of intersecting lives in the New York gay community now makes its way to the West End with a run at the Noël Coward Theatre. Kyle Soller continues to play the role of Eric and audiences will once again be drawn into this attention-grabbing world as stories unfold. Despite its long runtime, theatregoers could happily stay for double the time.

Produced by Sonia Friedman and Nattering Way, The Inheritance introduces us to various characters, including the mentioned Eric, a young, gay, Jewish man, as they navigate a new world with different opportunities and struggles after the height of the AIDS epidemic has changed things permanently.

In addition to Kyle Soller, the cast will also include Hugo Bolton, Robert Boulter, Andrew Burnap, Hubert Burton, John Benjamin Hickley, Paul Hilton, Samuel H Levine, Syrud Lowe, Michael Marcus and Michael Walters, all of whom previously played their parts at the Young Vic Theatre. The show also features a small part for iconic performer Vanessa Redgrave.

Soller has earned particular praise for his performance as Eric, however, and it is no wonder considering the years of experience he brings to the role from previous stage and screen productions. Best known for the likes of Poldark, he has also appeared in Hedda Gabler and Edward II, both at the National Theatre, Long Day’s Journey Into Night at the Apollo Theatre and The Faith Machine at the Royal Court Theatre, in addition to previous shows at the Young Vic.

The show comes from American writer Matthew Lopez, whose plays have previously appeared on the other side of the Atlantic, from Reverberation to The Whipping Man.

2018 is a busy year for the Noël Coward Theatre, which is also the home of Quiz and The Lieutenant Of Inishmore before the year is out. The Inheritance plays at the venue from Saturday 13th October 2018 (previews from Friday 21st September 2018).
