With audiences gripped by Julius Caesar and Antony & Cleopatra, the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Rome MMXVII is brought to an explosive end with Titus Andronicus as Blanche McIntyre directs David Troughton and more at the Barbican.

The famous tragic story of revenge has been a popular one for centuries now as it depicts a chaotic descent into oblivion for Rome. David Troughton, a veteran actor, is recruited to bring a powerful voice to the role of Titus and the result will be one of the must-see theatre events of the winter as the Rome season goes out with a bang.

The title character is a general in the Roman army during the latter days of an Empire that shaped the world. He is at his wit’s end and refuses the ultimate position of power in Rome as society descends into oblivion behind him and those around him seek violence.

David Troughton will bring a wealth of experience to the role of Titus, having spent his life on the stage and screen. He is well known for his numerous television credits, which include numerous appearance on both classic and new Doctor Who (his father, Patrick Troughton, played the Second Doctor), plus the radio series The Archers. Meanwhile, his stage work has included Inherit The Wind at the Old Vic Theatre in 2009, Richard II and Richard III for the Royal Shakespeare Company.

So he is the perfect choice to bring Titus to life on the stage of the Barbican in London as Titus Andronicus takes its rightful place in the spotlight. It runs at the prestigious venue from Thursday 7th December 2017.
