Ugly Lies the Bone

The Lyttelton National Theatre is the home of this story about a person rebuilding themselves after great change. It comes from the pen of Lindsey Ferrentino, the American playwright whose previous work includes Amy And The Orphans and Moonlight On The Bayou, and is set to appear in front of London theatregoers from February 2017.

Directing duties fall upon the Tricycle Theatre’s Indhu Rubasingham and she will lead a cast that includes Olivia Darnley, Kate Fleetwood, Buffy Davis, Kris Marshall and Ralf Little. So with performers that will be familiar to audiences across the country and a director with plenty of credits to her name, this will certainly be an interesting and unmissable production at South Bank venue.

The production focuses on the character of Jess, who returns to her home in Florida after serving in Afghanistan. The show takes us back to 2011 in the final days of the Space Shuttle programme, with Jess tackling her life head on and embarking on therapy that could turn her world around, coping with painful memories and working on relationships.

The show is the first time that Lindsey Ferrentino brings her work to the United Kingdom, though her work on the other side of the Atlantic has led to numerous awards, nominations and commissions.

And director Indhu Rubasingham will be utilising her compelling script to present a show that connects with audiences just like her previous work. As the Artistic Director of the Tricycle Theatre she has presented shows like Handbagged, whilst also directing shows like The Motherf*cker With The Hat at the National Theatre and Belong at the Royal Court Theatre, amongst many others.

Ugly Lies The Bone runs at the Lyttelton National Theatre from Wednesday 1st March 2017 (previews from Wednesday 22nd February 2017).
