Venus in Fur

Two characters take us on an extraordinary journey in New York City this October as the 2010 play Venus In Fur is staged at the Theatre Royal Haymarket. Through a stormy night we witness a writer-director and his potential actress go through his latest play and become tied up with the drama of the page.

David Ives’ play has been staged worldwide and will now appear in London’s West End under the direction of Patrick Marber and starring two well known performers in the lead roles of Thomas Novachek and Vanda Jordan. They are David Oakes and Natalie Dormer and together they will craft a compelling and powerful evening of theatre, both in the real world and within the realms of the characters.

The character of Thomas Novachek is the mentioned writer-director of a new play and he has just finished auditioning a range of actors for the lead character and is giving up hope of finding the perfect woman for the role. Enter Vanda Jordan. She arrives without prior notice and seems to be totally wrong for the character of Wanda von Dunayev but something profound unfolds as the two begin to read the parts, becoming embroiled with the characters as the story unfolds.

The play was first seen seven years ago and was the latest in a long line of well known shows penned by David Ives. The acclaimed playwright has earned numerous awards for original stories and adaptations (with Venus In Fur being honoured at the Tony Awards as well). All In The Timing landed him great success in the 1990s and recent years have seen him present shows like The Liar and Lives Of The Saints, amongst others. So Venus In Fur marked another triumphant entry in Ives’ back catalogue of acclaimed hits.

It means that this West End version was inevitable and it plays at the Theatre Royal Haymarket during another busy year for the prestigious venue. In 2017 it is also the home of The Goat, Or Who Is Sylvia? and RSC’s production of Queen Anne, amongst other anticipated shows.

Venues In Fur plays at the West End venue from Tuesday 17th October 2017 (previews from Friday 6th October 2017).
