The American Performer Making his London Stage Debut in the Southwark Venue from November

Another big casting announcement emerges today as a well known American performer is set to make his debut on a UK stage. The show has already confirmed stars such as Catherine Tate would be appearing in Assassins under the direction of Jamie Lloyd at the Menier Chocolate Factory and now they can add Broadway performer Aaron Tveit to the cast list.

Tveit has appeared in numerous high profile roles on the other side of the Atlantic and comes to the UK to play Lincoln assassin John Wilkes Booth.

Assassins is a Stephen Sondheim musical that focuses on the multiple famous attempts at taking out the President of the United States. These not only include the successful assassinations of Lincoln, Garfield, McKinley and Kennedy, but also failed attempts on targets such as Nixon and Reagan, among others. It is obviously a dark subject matter but it is brought to the stage with moments of levity, which is a combination that has clearly worked for audiences as it has been on the receiving end of numerous awards since it was first seen on Broadway in 1990.

Aaron Tveit has enjoyed an extensive career on the stage, whilst also managing to accumulate roles on the screen as well, with credits in the latter category including Gossip Girl, Les Misérables (the recent movie), Ghost Town, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Graceland, among others. But it is as a stage actor that he has really made his mark, appearing in high profile shows such as Catch Me If You Can at the Neil Simon Theatre, New York, and 5th Avenue Theatre, Seattle, Next To Normal at the Booth Theatre, New York, Wicked at the Gershwin Theatre, New York, and The Three Musketeers at the North Shore Music Theatre, Massachusetts, to name but a few, all on the other side of the Atlantic.

In addition to Tveit and Tate, the show will also feature Andy Nyman, Carly Bawden, Simon Lipkin, Mike McShane and David Roberts, with additional new cast members including Marc Akinfolarin, Greg Miller Burns, Stewart Clarke, Harry Morrison, Jamie Parker and Melle Stewart.

London theatre audiences can see Assassins at the Menier Chocolate Factory from Friday 21st November 2014 until Saturday 7th March 2015.
