Cast Update for the Upcoming Royal Court Production Starring David Morrissey

Earlier this year it was revealed that hangmen, the Royal Court production that played at the venue in September, would be granted a West End transfer as it runs at the Wyndham’s Theatre from December. The initial announcement saw David Morrissey and Johnny Flynn returning in lead roles for the West End run and now more names can be added to the list.

Andy Nyman is amongst them as he takes on the role of Syd alongside Craig Parkinson as Inspector Fry and Tony Hirst as Bill. They appear with Josef Davies, James Dryden, Johnny Flynn, John Hodgkinson, Bronwyn James, David Morrissey, Ryan Pope, Sally Rogers and Simon Rouse.

Hangmen is the new Martin McDonagh play that tells the story of a hangman in Oldham. The first new show from McDonagh in over a decade, it was naturally met with great anticipation and audiences were not disappointed in a story that introduces us to the character of Harry.

When hanging is abolished in the UK he finds himself in a dilemma as the country’s second best hangman. People flock to ask his opinion, but there’s someone else who approaches him for an entirely different reason.

Andy Nyman’s biggest success in recent years has been with Ghost Stories, a show he created with Jeremy Dyson and also starred-in during periods of its run. The show was last seen at the Arts Theatre and also played at the West End’s Duke of York’s Theatre. Meanwhile, Nyman is also known for shows like Abigail’s Party at the Wyndham’s Theatre and films like Death At A Funeral, Kick Ass 2 and The Brothers Bloom, amongst others. He is also a well known magician and has worked extensively with Derren Brown, co-directing many of his successful shows in the West End.

Hangmen replaces The Father at the Wyndham’s Theatre in December. The latter is a play starring Kenneth Cranham and deals with losing control in old age, which also stars Claire Skinner. 2016 also sees the arrival of People, Places and Things at the same venue.

But before that Hangmen runs at the Wyndham’s Theatre from Monday 7th December 2015 (with previews from Tuesday 1st December 2015).
