British actor named for West End Spider-man

Friday, 3rd Dec 2010

The leading man for the UK version of the Spider-Man musical has been announced, according to reports.

The Daily Mail's theatre expert Baz Bamigboye stated that Matthew James Thomas would take on the role of the superhero, despite the production not yet being scheduled to come to the West End.

Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark has recently begun playing at Foxwoods Theatre in New York, with Thomas currently cast as the alternative lead in the show.

He impressed director Julie Taymor and U2's Bono and The Edge - who are responsible for the production's soundtrack - when he auditioned for the part last year.

Although the production has been hit by some technical glitches, West End producer David Pugh told Bamiboye that he hopes the production works out well.

"I believe it can be fixed - Spider-Man's not ready to scuttle away just yet," he added.

Set to open in the US on January 11th 2011, it is scheduled to run until April 17th.
